the problem ―
intuit is a company that develops financial products including mint, quickbooks and turbotax. Our task was to explore a way in which international college students require financial guidance and to develop a service that would resolve some of the pain users feel. We focused on a way to help international students navigate the unfamiliar American financial system. As the designer in the project group, I developed layouts for most of the deliverables, and did the wire-framing for the app mockups.
the process ―
We began the process by conducting user and background research and identifying the main pain points associated with international students and financial advice. The research process included interviews with international students, building a journey map, developing personas, and analysing competitors.
We synthesised all of the insights from our research and developed three “How Might We” questions. Based on these three overarching questions, we ideated over 150 potential solutions, we narrowed it down to four feasible ideas and made storyboards for each of the ideas.
Through user feedback, we chose one final idea, the CompareForMe mobile app, and developed three service blueprints for the service at different levels (step, reach and leap).
After choosing a single solution idea, we prototyped three touchpoints of our final solution and conducted user testing with international students at University of California - Berkeley. We revised our solution based on their feedback, and pitched our idea to our clients at Intuit.

the solution ―
Our solution, the CompareForMe mobile app, allows international students to compare prices of goods and services in the US against an average price, and get recommendations on alternatives. The app will be integrated with Intuit's Mint, leveraging the capabilities of Mint and including them in the app.
Success metrics include the number of app downloads, the number of active users and the conversion rate to Mint.
The project is currently under revision, and future work includes integrating seamlessly with Mint budgeting, partnering with vendors for promotions and developing augmented reality features for greater interactivity.
