AQUA HUB
Product Design
The PROBLEM:
A Just Harvest is an organisation that provides communal support in the Rogers Park community by feeding and training hungry people. One of their new projects is to teach farming skills to volunteers and students and grow crops for economic profit. Being a new project, however, there was no connection to the water supply. Our task was to design a water delivery system for A Just Harvest.
The process:
We began the process by conducting user and background research to develop a project scope, and we decided to focus on an exterior water delivery system. The research process included client and user interviews, site safaris, and evaluation of current solutions.
There were many design requirements and constraints that had to be taken into consideration, most significantly safety, durability, ease of operation and conservation of water. Instead of building a completely new irrigation system from scratch, through meetings with the client, we decided to implement existing products in our final solution
We performed numerous rounds of user and performance testing before finalising what products to buy for our solution.
The solution:
Our design, the Aquahub, solves the problem by providing an adequate water supply to the existing plant beds while leaving room for a standard garden hose or further exterior expansion. Our design takes waterproofing and water pressure into consideration, and has a water backflow prevention system. By using a PVC tunnel, the hoses that are part of the design will not interfere with the operations of the building.
